How are truck-trip emissions calculated?
- The most accurate simple input is actual fuel used or a realistic L/100 km consumption. Trip litres are multiplied by the selected kg CO₂ or kg CO₂e per litre factor.
- TTW (tank-to-wheel) covers emissions from using fuel in the vehicle. WTW (well-to-wheel) additionally includes upstream fuel-supply / well-to-tank emissions, so the WTW result is higher.
- The g/t-km metric divides allocated emissions by cargo tonnes and loaded kilometres. If empty kilometres are allocated to this shipment, their emissions are included in the trip intensity.
- ISO 14083:2023 and the GLEC Framework define broader methods for transport-chain emissions accounting. This tool is a fuel-based planning calculator, not a certified ISO 14083 report.
Important: The tool includes an EU direct-CO₂ planning reference of about 2.65 kg CO₂/L and separate 2026 UK Government diesel CO₂e factors. For official customer or ESG reporting, use your organisation’s approved method, boundaries and emission-factor version.
