What should you know about a CMR consignment note?

  • The CMR Convention generally applies to carriage of goods by road for reward when the place of taking over and the place designated for delivery are in two different countries and at least one is a CMR contracting country.
  • Article 6(1) lists the main consignment-note particulars, including date and place of issue, sender, carrier, taking over and delivery, consignee, goods and packing, packages/marks, weight or quantity, carriage charges, formalities instructions and the CMR applicability statement.
  • Where applicable, Article 6(2) provides for additional particulars such as prohibition of transshipment, cash on delivery, declared value, insurance instructions, agreed time limit and a list of documents handed to the carrier.
  • For a paper CMR, Article 5 provides for three original copies signed by the sender and carrier. e-CMR may be used under the Additional Protocol and applicable national / contractual conditions.
Important: EuroTruckTools cannot determine whether this draft is sufficient for your specific carriage. Customs, ADR, temperature control, sanctions, excise rules or a particular customer may require additional documents and particulars.
