The Mont Blanc Tunnel operator has published its 2026 autumn works schedule. The France–Italy crossing will close completely on eight nights in September. The closures apply in both directions and to all traffic, so hauliers must coordinate the route with legal driving and rest time.

Exact September 2026 closure dates

On each listed night, the tunnel is closed from 22:00 until 06:00:

  • 14–15 September;
  • 15–16 September;
  • 16–17 September;
  • 17–18 September;
  • 21–22 September;
  • 22–23 September;
  • 23–24 September;
  • 24–25 September.

These are full closures, not alternating traffic restrictions. Neither HGVs nor passenger vehicles can pass during the closure window.

No extended autumn shutdown in 2026

The operator states that a multi-month autumn shutdown, like those used in previous years, is not planned for 2026. Additional overnight works are nevertheless scheduled in October, November and December. The programme remains subject to operational changes, so the official calendar should be checked again before every journey.

What hauliers should plan

Simply adding eight hours to the ETA is not enough. A closure can create queues before reopening, reduce available HGV parking and move a driver beyond the legal end of a shift.

Before dispatch:

  1. Check whether the expected arrival falls inside the 22:00–06:00 closure.
  2. Recalculate remaining driving time and the next required rest.
  3. Identify a legal HGV parking location before the tunnel.
  4. Compare any alternative route using extra kilometres, tolls, fuel and national driving bans.
  5. Recheck the operator notice on the day of travel.

Waiting or diverting: calculate the real cost

A moving truck is not automatically the cheaper option. A mountain diversion can increase consumption, tolls and paid driver time. Dispatchers should compare the cost of waiting with the complete cost of the diversion, including empty kilometres and delivery-window risk.

EuroTruckTools toll, truck cost-per-kilometre and driving-time tools can support that comparison. They do not replace the tunnel operator’s live status or national traffic rules.

Frequently asked questions

Is the tunnel closed for the whole autumn?

No. There is no extended autumn shutdown planned in 2026, but separate overnight closures are scheduled.
