Truck fuel cost calculator
Calculate litres required, fuel cost per 100 km and total trip fuel cost using a selectable country diesel price.
This result is a planning aid. Always verify legal limits, vehicle documents, route restrictions and carrier tariffs separately.
How to calculate truck fuel cost per kilometre
Truck fuel cost depends on distance, fuel consumption and diesel price. First calculate litres needed for the trip, then multiply by the price per litre. For a per-kilometre figure, divide the trip fuel cost by distance or use consumption × diesel price ÷ 100.
Worked example
Example: 1,000 km, 30 L/100 km and €1.70/L.
| Step | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Diesel required | 1,000 km × 30 ÷ 100 | 300 L |
| Trip fuel cost | 300 L × €1.70 | €510 |
| Fuel cost per 100 km | 30 × €1.70 | €51.00/100 km |
| Fuel cost per km | €51.00 ÷ 100 | €0.510/km |

Assumes 30 L/100 km and €1.70/L for every row.
| Distance | Diesel required | Fuel cost |
|---|---|---|
| 500 km | 150 L | €255 |
| 1,000 km | 300 L | €510 |

| 2,000 km | 600 L | €1,020 |
Common questions
How do I calculate litres needed for a truck trip?
Multiply trip distance in kilometres by fuel consumption in L/100 km and divide by 100. A 1,000 km trip at 30 L/100 km requires 300 litres.
How do I calculate truck fuel cost per km?
Multiply fuel consumption in L/100 km by diesel price per litre and divide by 100. At 30 L/100 km and €1.70/L, the fuel cost is €0.510 per km.
Should I use a national diesel average or my own fuel-card price?
Use your own expected purchase price whenever you know it. A national average is useful only as a planning reference.
Does this fuel cost equal the total truck cost per km?
No. Fuel is only one operating-cost component. The true truck cost per km also includes fixed costs, maintenance, tyres, tolls, driver costs, AdBlue and other expenses.
Method: arithmetic follows the same distance × consumption × price logic as the fuel calculator. Example prices are illustrative inputs, not current market averages.

How do you plan fuel consumption and trip fuel cost?
- Fuel needed for the trip = distance in km × average consumption in L/100 km ÷ 100. Trip fuel cost is the resulting litres multiplied by the actual price per litre.
- Fuel cost per 100 km = consumption in L/100 km × diesel price per litre. This is useful for quickly comparing different prices or consumption levels.
- Example: an 800 km trip at 30 L/100 km requires 240 litres. At €1.60/L, the planned fuel cost is €384, or €48 per 100 km.
- EuroTruckTools can suggest the latest diesel price stored for the selected country, but for professional costing you can always replace it with your actual fuel-card, contracted or station price.
- If you refuel in several countries at different prices, one country average is only a planning reference. For greater accuracy, use the actual litres purchased at each price.
