How to calculate diesel cost for a U.S. truck

Gallons needed = trip miles ÷ MPG. Trip fuel cost = gallons × diesel price per gallon.
Fuel cost per mile = diesel price per gallon ÷ MPG. Use your actual card or pump price when you know it.
The default diesel value is a recent EIA U.S. on-highway diesel snapshot for convenience; replace it with the price you expect to pay.

Important: EIA publishes weekly U.S. on-highway diesel prices in dollars per gallon. A national average is useful for planning, but your actual lane, state, discounts and fuel-card price may differ.
