When is a container limited by weight rather than volume?

Container planning requires two independent checks: nominal / planned usable volume and maximum payload.
Published equipment references from a major ocean carrier show roughly 33.2 m³ and 28.3 t payload for a 20 ft dry, 67.7 m³ and 28.87 t for a 40 ft dry, and 76.4 m³ and 28.69 t for a 40 ft high cube. A specific container can differ.
More container volume does not necessarily mean more permitted cargo weight. A 40 HC is therefore often useful for light, bulky cargo.
Tare, maximum gross, payload, internal dimensions and door opening can vary by equipment unit. The actual CSC plate takes precedence over an online preset.

Important: The calculator checks total CBM and kg, but not a 3D box layout, door opening or point loads on the container floor.
