From **1 September through 31 December 2026**, the Netherlands is applying a temporary **22.3% reduction** to every truck-toll rate category. According to the Dutch government, the average rate falls from about **€0.191 to €0.148 per kilometre**.

The reduction is built into the tariffs. It does not remove the obligation to carry and use a working on-board unit.

Which vehicles are covered?

The Dutch distance-based truck toll started on 1 July 2026. It applies to domestic and foreign **N2 and N3 goods vehicles** — broadly, trucks with a technically permissible maximum mass above 3.5 tonnes.

The charged network covers almost all motorways and selected provincial and municipal roads. The exact rate depends on the vehicle’s weight and emissions / CO₂ class: cleaner and lighter trucks pay less.

How long does the reduction last?

  • Start: **1 September 2026**
  • End: **31 December 2026**
  • Reduction: **22.3% for all truck categories**
  • Government average: from **€0.191 to €0.148/km**

Unless extended, rates may return to their normal level in January 2027. Quotes covering 2027 journeys should therefore be checked again.

What should a carrier do?

  1. Have a contract with an approved toll service provider before using the charged network.
  2. Check that the on-board unit (OBU) is switched on and linked to the correct registration number.
  3. Verify the recorded weight, CO₂ and emissions class because they determine the tariff.
  4. Use the reduced rates in quotes from 1 September, but include a price-review condition for 2027 work.
  5. Do not treat the discount as relaxed enforcement: RDW continues to check that N2 and N3 vehicles have a working OBU.

What happened to the Eurovignette?

The **Eurovignette stopped applying in the Netherlands on 1 July 2026**, when distance charging began. It may still be required in other Eurovignette countries, so the Dutch change does not cancel it for an entire international route.

Practical effect on pricing

Longer transit journeys in the Netherlands will cost less through the end of 2026 than under the July–August rates. Separate Dutch kilometres from other countries when quoting, and use the tariff class of the actual vehicle.
