CARGO
Cubic feet & freight density
Calculate ft³, lb/ft³ density and optional parcel dimensional weight from inch measurements.
⚠️ Important
Planning aid only. Always verify state and federal rules, permits, vehicle/tire ratings, route restrictions, carrier tariffs and certified scale weights when they apply.
Why density and DIM weight are different
- Cubic feet is physical volume. Freight density is total pounds divided by total cubic feet.
- Parcel dimensional weight is a pricing rule based on cubic inches divided by a carrier divisor. The divisor is contractual and can vary.
- LTL class, linear-foot rules, minimum charges and handling characteristics are not determined by density alone.
Important: Use your carrier’s current tariff or contract for the actual DIM divisor, freight class and billing rule.
