CARRIER

U.S. load profit calculator

Check a load using loaded miles, deadhead, true cost per mile, extra trip costs and your target gross margin.

⚠️ Important

Planning aid only. Always verify state and federal rules, permits, vehicle/tire ratings, route restrictions, carrier tariffs and certified scale weights when they apply.

Why deadhead changes load profitability

  • Use loaded miles plus deadhead miles when calculating trip cost. Deadhead produces cost even when it produces no freight revenue.
  • Trip cost = all miles × your true cost per mile + trip-specific costs not already included in cost per mile.
  • Gross margin is profit divided by revenue; it is different from markup on cost.
Important: This is a planning calculator. Broker terms, detention, lumper fees, tolls, factoring, cargo claims, taxes and accessorials may change the real result.
